I read an article a while back that it was against the law to use any form of speed camera warning devices in some countries.
Now our Tomtom came with speed camera data for Europe already installed. I know they can be disabled but do you need to delete them or is disabling enough? |

Right saw this too and found out
Stuff like Road Angel that detects a turned on speed camera / Radar etc is ILLEGAL in France and Spain and technically in the UK too
BUT TomTom etc with speed camera warnings are legal
and if you are stopping in an area for a while you will find the local police (in France AND Spain) publish a list of where the temporary ones are for the week. |

This is the Spanish rule on Sat Navs.
Navigation aids and DVD´s etc.
The driver must not use any screen based aid to navigation (or entertainment) while on the road. You must pull completely off away from traffic. (It makes sense really; after all, you are not allowed to drive down the road with a map on the steering wheel). DVD players and screen based devices other than those directly needed to operate the car must be positioned so the driver cannot see them.
I had seen this before last years trip to Spain and we tried to hide the TT if we saw any Police, but there was a couple of occations were we forgot, the Police, if they saw the TT, did'nt seen bothered. |

| We have an external aerial so can put the tomtom low down out the way and the mount swivels so with luck if we have that problem the wife can turn it  |

Ditto for us
But we ran into a Roadblock of Police and Army and they totally ignored the Sat Nav were more concerned that they had to move more of their road block to let our caravan through |

The Skoda has one like that BUT only has UK maping for 2004 and Tom Tom is cheaper to update for Europe than the disc for the cars one :?:
I can't figure out why the in car Sat Nav is
1/ so difficult to use
2/ so expensive to update
3/ so.........grrr infuriating |

The in car sat nav jobbies DO take a bit of getting used to. With all the added features that it has over and above the TomTom, I actually now prefer it to the TomTom.
I do agree that update costs are outrageously high though at £140+ a pop.
However, I wont bother updating mine as I change my vehicle every 3 years. :P |

| Never had an in car satnav but one thing I can say about the tomtom is the fact that the software is always being updated, I can us my tomtom as a hands free, control the ipod etc, In the last update two things added I did like, 1 I can now tap where am I and I get a complete description of my location I ie "you are on the M6 travelling south blah miles from J? and blah miles from j?" hand if you breakdown 2 it now has a warning for driving abroad about left or right hand driving. |
