OK what is the best way to get across
Some say the ferry is cheaper but longer, but can save on the driving.
Others say the tunnel is as cheap and quicker but involves a bit more driving depending on where you are going.

Tunnel
total time taken 45 minutes minimum
more expensive BUT what is costs extra (cheapest £98 each way at stupid o' clock) is off set by being at least an hour and a half further into France as opposed to Calais and Dunkerque docks
which when you plan to do over 400 miles on the first day is a huge chunk of the driving at 130kmph
Ferry
You can get some good offers but again some are at stupid o' clock but then this can be weighed against the fact that although the experience takes around 2-3 hours you get an hours break on boards and a meal and stretch your legs
Personally
I prefer the train easy to get on (no massive ramps) I prefer the quick and can get my break in an Autoroute service area with good quality food at cheaper prices |

We used Train in march £61 each way and £30 for the dog booked to go on at 1.15 pm but went early at 11.30 am no extra charge. This time for 3rd February we are going on the Ferry over at 7am our choice need to get down France as far as we can before tea time. return is at 11am 1st May cost £108 return and £30 for the dog so not much in it really and times good.Would have prefered going on the train again but as we are travelling with friends this time and they had booked ferry, just means we have to leave the dog for a while on its own but it wont bother to much.. I hope..
